In Texas, businesses side with consumers on insurance bill (kind of)

A bill currently under Texas Senate consideration has, in a somewhat rare turn, joined consumers and businesses together in a fight against the state government. Namely, both groups stand in opposition to Senate Bill 10, a piece of legislation that would make it more difficult for insurance policyholders to collect payment after a natural disaster.

In Texas, a ban on texting while driving is poised to pass into law

Earlier this week, the Texas House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly - 113-32 - to outlaw texting while driving. Specifically, the proposed bill prohibits drivers from using "a portable wireless communication device to read, write, or send an electronic message while operating a motor vehicle."

In Texas, bus companies carry inadequate insurance

There have been more than 100 fatal accidents in Texas involving (non-school) buses in the last decade, according to data from the Texas Department of Transportation. Many of these incidents caused multiple deaths. There were, for example, 17 passenger fatalities in a 2008 rollover wreck near Sherman; nine were killed after a charter bus crash in Laredo in 2016; another rollover, near Victoria, led to one death - and 46 injuries.*

Texas's Roads Are The Country's Most Dangerous

Texas's highways are the nation's most deadly. According to statistics recently released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 3,757 fatalities on our roads in 2015 were the most recorded in any state. We also lead the country in alcohol-related driving deaths.
